Tom buys Athena Aurelius, his ditzy cheerleader fiancé, the wedding gift of an island cabin in Grimm Lake, a fairytale theme park. It’s her dream home and she imagines an idyllic, fairytale castle, but the reality is a derelict shack with horror lurking in the forest – and an even darker secret behind the costumes and fairydust.

When Tom dies on their wedding day, Athena loses her job and her in-laws evict her, her only option is to renovate her cabin and take stock. She’s befriended by Mickey, granddaughter of Connie, the town matriarch. But Mickey is concealing her own sinister destiny.

As Athena ineptly repairs her cabin, Connie and two cops, Dwain & Bjorn Ursus, pressure her to sell it. Meanwhile, the strange, bear-like Ted Medvedev lurks threateningly, and the werebears begin their visits to her cabin, but the threat to her is greater than just the beasts in the woods: Grimm Lake is a front for a twisted religious cult and Athena is getting in the way of their plans.

Athena witnesses a rehearsal of Mickey’s horrific ‘Purposing’ ceremony, presided over by Connie, in Mickey will be given to a werebear,. She and Mickey try to escape but Bjorn destroys the only bridge out of Grimm Lake, trapping them. In panic, Athena calls Zena for help.

Zena arrives, only to find Athena and Mickey have a new escape plan. The werebears attack, maiming Mickey, seemingly aided my Ted. Zena takes care of Ted – only to discover he was human after all and trying to help – before the werebears attack Zena. She crawls back to the cabin and dies in Athena’s arms. All is lost.

Reeling, Athena stumbles into a tunnel that leads to the werebears’ cave, and the full horror is apparent. If the townsfolk’s plans go ahead, Mickey will be a broken woman – and Athena will be dead.
Escape made impossible, there’s only one option left: Fight. And fight dirty.

Mickey escapes to Athena’s cabin and they prepare for the onslaught from the werebears and Grimm Lakers, led by Connie. A bloody battle ensues. Athena and Mickey emerge from the wreckage that lays waste to the island, battered but victorious and determined to survive whatever the world throws at them next.
