Comedy Feature Screenplay Award Finalist
Screenwriter

In the bustling halls of a vibrant retirement community, Olivia, a spirited widow, finds solace and companionship in a clandestine gambling circle among fellow widows. For them, these gatherings are more than a pastime; they are a vibrant defense against the creeping shadows of loneliness, depression, and cognitive decline. However, their hidden escapades come under scrutiny when a police raid busts their operation, leaving them with an eye-opening choice: retreat into isolation or fight for their right to play. Determined not to succumb to silence, Olivia and her friends secretly rally to challenge outdated state gambling laws. As they navigate legal hurdles and societal perceptions, the women discover newfound strength in their unity, redefining what it means to age with dignity and fighting for the joy that sustains them. *Granny Has a Gambling Problem* is a heartwarming tale of friendship, resilience, and the irrepressible spirit of reclaiming joyous moments against all odds.

W riters Statement: Granny Has A Gambling Problem is based on a true story about my mother and her friends. After my father passed in 2005, she was sad and lonely. Many of her friends were widows too. They had always played 500 cards once a week and Bingo for years. They decided to add more games. However, they did not realize the old Maryland gambling laws were so outdated and stringent until the community center was raided by the police for illegal gambling. This forced her daughter Renee (myself) to research the gambling laws in Maryland.
The seniors decided to work on changing the laws so they could continue to gamble. I really enjoyed writing this script about our adventure on changing the gambling laws in Maryland. I have a series of about 60 stories and scripts about Granny and her 5 children life long adventures.
