A silent horror-comedy short film about a fake ghost falling in love with a real one. Think Casablanca, but spooky and gay.

Director Statement: When Matt Mitchell (writer) and I got together to talk about making another short film, we wanted to create a story that was interesting, involved all of our friends, and was above all… fun. GHOSTED was the solution.
We sat at a coffee shop, and wrote down a bunch of ideas on notecards – some had characters, others had locations, and a few had genres. We then picked 3 at random and tried to make sense of the pairing, attempting to create a narrative from this game (again… fun!) When we pulled out Ghost, Ben’s Apartment, and Romance, the ideas came flowing out and our excitement grew and grew and grew.
This silent, spooky, queer rom-com between a real ghost and a fake ghost is what we came up with. It’s sweet, bizarrely unique, and completely unforgettable.
And FUN!
That being said, while the overall tone of the film is silly and fun, the underlying themes are poignant and unfortunately still relevant for many queer people, who feel they must hide their personalities in public spaces. When our lovers first meet, their true identities are hidden. It is only when the they are alone, that they feel comfortable taking off their costumes. GHOSTED is a witty, queer, love story that takes inspiration from the Old Hollywood silent film era.
There is truly nothing better than making art with your friends. This film is a celebration of that, and I hope you get the same sense of joy from watching it as we got from making it.
