Finesse delves into the obsessive, expectation-filled minds of young adults as they navigate the gap between fantasy and reality. Inspired by a personal encounter, Abdul wanted to reimagine an experience not as it happened, but as he wished it had. It is a proof of concept for a bigger story already written.
This film is a love letter to character-driven stories, where we journey alongside someone and allow their choices, rather than the plot devices, to shape the narrative. In Finesse, we capture that sense of intrigue and possibility, using humor and introspection to reveal both the beauty and absurdity of expectations.
Biography
Abdul is a writer, director, actor based in Toronto, Canada. Raised in both Canada and Pakistan, he is fluent in English, Hindi, and Urdu. His passion for film began in high school and college where he studied Acting and Film and Television Production.
Over the years he has written several feature and short film scripts across multiple genres. His previous dark comedy film Her Corpse, which is still in the festival circuit, was a finalist in the Houston Comedy Festival and received an honorable mention at the Hollywood Shorts Festival.
