A recovering alcoholic uses her coming out story in her stand-up act and her therapy sessions to explain her addiction and her relationship with her mother.

Director Statement: I was honored and excited when the writers Suzy Stein and Fernando Perez approached me to direct this movie. I had worked with them before and am moved by their moving stories and subject matter. I was really inspired by their concept of cutting away from the stand-up routine and wanted to lean in to that as a method of comedy story -telling. I am always trying to find unique and entertaining ways to tell stories and connect the audience to the characters. Creating the cut-aways was a delicate balancing act. We had to schedule two cut-away pick up shoots after the edits with place holders to ensure they flow without damaging the pacing. In the end it took longer than we expected, but we had the invaluable luxury of time, and the trust of our executive producers. In the end, the team and I are thrilled with the results, had a wonderful time making Argie Berman and hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it.
