riters Statement:
Our series is based on the time when we lived as twenty-somethings in the intense and often surreal city of Berlin. It was a time of great youthful expectations – often leading to great disappointments.
While writing, we were inspired by the new wave of dramedy: Louie, Girls, and Please Like Me all used storytelling in exciting ways, with an emphasis on smart and funny dialogue. This fit us perfectly. We had tons of ideas for weird situations and jokes, and friends who felt like ready-made characters.
We wanted the series to feel like Friends – but with a realistic twist. David’s friends don’t have time to hang out all the time. Still, he keeps dreaming, which is also admirable. The friend group from 4 different countries, connecting through humor, is sort of a European dream.
Our own dream came true when the series got produced with an amazing cast – including Rein as David. TIGBG’s morale may be that we have to lower our expectations. But we shouldn’t stop dreaming altogether.
